Ruby Osorio: Alter Egos
Artist Ruby Osorio invited participants to create alter ego characters and explore another dimension of the self-portrait. An introduction to figure drawing and characterization brought forth a series of illustrated personalities in acrylic ink, pencil, and pen on paper. Each drawing was converted into a decal and included in a wall installation by Osorio at SMMoA (June 11–August 13, 2005). Click here for exhibition images.

Participants: Jivanto van Hermert, Rafaela Hess, Alex Jacobius, Lily Jacobius, Mayura Jain, Ana Mendoza, Joey Leyba, Casey Lipka, Nia Lipka, Alina Moreno, Trang Pham, Vanessa Ulloa, Silvana Valeri, Maria Zapien.

RUBY OSORIO engages the viewer with images of girly sweetness in whimsical natural settings often including subtle yet subversive elements that critique feminine stereotypes. Osorio received a grant from the J Paul Getty Trust fund for the Visual Arts in 2003. She has had solo shows at Cherrydelosreyes, Los Angeles and at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis for Ruby Osorio: A Story of a Girl (that awakes far, far away) (March 18—June 12, 2005).
