Gronk: Art Packs
Gronk asked the participants to think of a word that had special significance to them. With that word in mind, the young people used simple materials such as recycled cardboard, charcoal, and paint to create an artwork and the packaging for it. Using a select palette of paints and pastels, cardboard, Ziploc bags, and staples, participants made artwork in packages complete with labels. Hanging along a wall or a fence, these hand-made packets of art recall small toys, candies, or simple products often found with urban vendors or smaller markets. Visiting Gronk’s studio and home is like entering into one of his artworks—his art is made in an environment that is art itself. Participants were given a taste of life as an artist by enjoying Gronk’s invitation to make art right in the center of his studio. Click here for exhibition images.
