Park Studio 2009, A Mighty Message

Park Studio is a program of the Santa Monica Museum of Art that offers free art education for local students during the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s spring break.

This year’s theme, A Mighty Message, centered around the power of political graphics and how to produce original images for T-shirts, posters, and stickers – compelling supports for art and messages by contemporary youth. Students learned from artists Robbie Conal, Barbara Carrasco, Harry Gamboa, Jr., and Man One, as well as historian Carol Wells from the Center for the Study of Political Graphics. Original prints were made in collaboration with the artists and silkscreen collective HIT+RUN. The accompanying documentary video was made by Harry Gamboa, Jr.
